What are false lashes made from?
False lashes can be made from synthetic fibres, human hair or animal hair, such as mink fur. Faux mink lashes are synthetic and imitate the appearance of mink fur. By Dash Beauty lash fibres are made from PBT (polybutylene terephthalate), a synthetic plastic without animal hair.
Names such as mink, faux mink and silk can be confusing. Below, we explain what these terms mean and how to identify the material used in a lash.
Which materials are used for false lashes?
Synthetic fibres
Synthetic lashes are made from artificial fibres. Faux mink belongs to this category. PBT (polybutylene terephthalate) is a plastic used for lash fibres. By Dash Beauty false lashes also have PBT fibres. Other brands may use different plastics: faux mink alone is not a complete material specification.
Human hair
Some false lashes are made from human hair. The material description may state this as human hair. This is a different material category from synthetic faux mink.
Animal hair
Lashes made from real mink fur also exist. If you want to avoid animal hair, check the material description and look for a clear statement of synthetic fibres or faux mink.
What is the difference between faux mink and real mink?
Faux mink means imitation mink: the fibres imitate the soft appearance of mink fur but are synthetic. Real mink refers to actual mink fur. The name mink without further explanation can be confusing, because the lash industry also uses it for synthetic versions.
Are silk lashes made from real silk?
Not necessarily. Silk is a natural material, but the lash industry also uses the term for synthetic lashes, for example those made from PBT. Real silk is a natural fibre rather than animal hair. Always check the material information for the specific product.
What are By Dash Beauty lashes made from?
By Dash Beauty lash fibres are made from PBT (polybutylene terephthalate). This applies to our full lash strips and half lashes, including those in starter kits or bundles. PBT is a synthetic plastic and contains no animal hair. Faux mink describes the mink-like appearance of the fibres. Our styles range from natural and subtle to full and glamorous. The lashes are lightweight and can be worn again with careful use.
One example is Angel Eyes, a 3D faux mink lash with a transparent band. This style suits both a daytime look and a night out.

What should you consider when choosing lashes?
Start with the material description, then consider the lash's length, volume and shape. Also take the lash band and glue into account: they have their own compositions. Read that information separately if you want to avoid particular materials or ingredients.
